The Integrated Marine Observing System

The Integrated Marine Observing System, or IMOS is using the latest advances in technology, including satellites and instruments in the ocean, to observe physical and biological properties around Australia.

IMOS is a nation-wide collaborative program designed to observe the oceans around Australia, including the coastal oceans and the 'bluewater' open oceans. The program has strong links with similar international programs and agencies.

There are five nodes (geographical areas) of IMOS of NSW is one. SIMS manages and operates the NSW Node

One important feature is that all data is available to researchers free of charge via the IMOS Ocean Portal created and managed by the Electronic Marine Information Infrastructure facility, University of Tasmania.
