The Sydney Institute of Marine Science is a joint venture, research facility based on Sydney Harbour's North Shore at Chowder Bay. It will bring together teams of leading scientists to work on issues that are critical for the management of our coastal and oceanic environments.
About Us
The Sydney Institute of Marine Science (SIMS), a not for profit marine research facility, was established in 2005 by four of Sydney's leading universities. SIMS is a joint venture, research facility based on Sydney Harbour's North Shore at Chowder Bay.

IMOS @ SIMS
The Integrated Marine Observing System, or IMOS, will provide data to support research on many of the critical marine issues facing Australia. The Sydney Institute of Marine Science has been chosen as the NSW Node and will coordinate various IMOS deployments along the Australian coast line.

Sydney Institute of Marine Science wins $19.5m grant in Budget 09: researchers to tackle threats to Australian coasts and marine ecosystems.

Sydney Harbour will be the focus of a world-class marine research program to tackle some of the most pressing issues facing Australian coasts thanks to a $19.5m grant to the Sydney Institute of Marine Science (SIMS), announced in Tuesday's Federal Budget.
New Funding Partnership

On the 24th of February 2009 the Sydney Institute of Marine Science hosted a visit by the Deputy Premier, the Hon. Carmel Tebbutt, and the Hon. Jodi McKay, in her capacity as Minister for Science and Medical Research. During the visit Minister Tebbutt announced state government support and funding for the Sydney Institute of Marine Science.
