EAC Glider Set to Go

On Tuesday 9th of March Professor Iain Suthers deployed a Slocum Glider to traverse the East Australia Current.

You will be able follow the Glider in near real time when it is launched on late Tuesday via the download below.

Ocean Surface Currents and Temperature

Once you've downloaded the file please follow the instructions below.





  1. You will need have Google Earth installed

  2. click on the option for Sea Surface Temperature (SST) in the middle left hand column to click on "East Australia SST and altimetric currents"

  3. It should automatically select the most recent glider deployment "unit# 106", and ignore all the earlier deployments (unless you are curious about the past missions)

  4. there is a 7 day time-scale bar on the top right of the GE image. It always starts off with week old SST - click and drag the cursor to the right hand side.
