On Saturday 23rd September, the SIMS team welcomed a great turnout of ocean ambassadors to Chowder Bay to participate in a thorough clean of Chowder Bay, both on land and in water. The crew were rewarded for their efforts and generosity in giving up their Saturday morning with a BBQ brekky and an update on the new ‘super’ seahorse residents that reside in the now much cleaner Chowder Bay.
The day was a huge success with plenty of rubbish removed from our backyard, and a great amount of buzz generated about our research from local divers, researchers, kids and everyone in between.

Our lovely beach cleaners weren’t the only ones to visit SIMS on Saturday, with an international delegation of IUCN members meeting in Oceania for the first time and popping by!
The International Union for the Conservation of Nature is the world’s oldest and most diverse global environmental network, involving 197 States and government agencies, 1097 national and international NGOs, 19 indigenous organisations and 42 associate organisations.
It was a pleasure to host some of the team at SIMS, and we are grateful for the opportunity to share with them some of our research and our common passion for conservation.
