Inaugural Talbot Oration
SIMS’ Associate Member, the Australian Museum has announced the inaugural Talbot Oration. In a wonderful recognition of former Australian Museum Director Frank Talbot AM, this annual oration celebrates Frank Talbot’s commitment to, and achievements in marine research and environmental studies in Australia and on the global stage.
Frank’s contribution to marine science as the founding chair of SIMS has been immense. His insights, be those from early in his career or those more recent provide compelling instruction to us all and SIMS was honoured to sit down in converation with Frank in 2020, See a “Frank Conversation”.
The Talbot Oration will showcase advances in the field of climate change research and environmental conservation, enabling the public to better understand how responses to the climate challenge determine our future prospects, health and the sustainability of our natural environment.
In June 2021, Professor Tim Flannery outlined his manifesto for humanity’s survival of the “climate emergency” in the Australian Museum’s inaugural Talbot Oration. It is an oration very much focused on solutions and the possibilities of harnessing the inspiration of youth.
