Come join our team at SIMS!
SIMS is hiring several new positions to support the recently announced ‘Project Restore’, which seeks to strengthen NSW’s natural environment through restoring key ecosystems and habitats within Sydney Harbour.
The project will leverage existing Sydney Institute of Marine Science programs (Fish Habitat Enhancement, Operation Crayweed, Operation Posidonia and Living Seawalls), which will be working cohesively for the first time to provide a template for restoration of whole seascapes. Project Restore sits within a broader NSW Government Initiative, Seabirds to Seascapes, which is being led by the NSW Department of Planning and Environment on behalf of the NSW Environmental Trust.
Project Restore will be a world first approach to tackling marine ecosystem restoration at seascape level. Using methods and tools developed in partnership with university researchers, SIMS will enhance Sydney Harbour’s seawalls with the installation of Living Seawall panels, replace swing moorings that damage fragile seagrass beds with non-scarring moorings, restore kelp fields from where they have been lost, and deploy fish and seahorse habitats. The restoration will be completed in conjunction with modern scientific approaches to understand the inter-connectivity and benefits of restoration at seascape level.
