New SIMS vessel – Kirby II

SIMS is extremely grateful to the James N Kirby Foundation for their generous contribution to the purchase of the Kirby II.  The Kirby Foundation have been instrumental in the development of SIMS over the years, having funded the purchase of one of our first research vessels, and through their ongoing support of critical research projects.

Kirby II is a custom built 19 ft Rigid Inflatable Boat (R.I.B) with
twin high-thrust 60hp Yamaha Motors. A restricted 2C survey vesseI, the
Kirby II features ample work space for scuba diving, snorkeling and the
use of a range of field sampling equipment. Designed with scuba
tank holders and seating for six persons this vessel will suit both in-harbour
and off-shore requirements, having a great balance of maneuverability and
stability.
