Welcome to SIMS
SIMS recently welcomed Minister Sussan Ley, Federal Environment Minister, and Dr Sally Box, Threatened Species Commissioner, to Chowder Bay. Our team of researchers were excited to share their research into seagrasses, carbon capture, threatened species and much more with such an eager group of visitors.
The SIMS Ian Potter Foundation research aquarium looked a little different to the SEALIFE Sydney Aquarium where Minister Ley had spent time earlier in the day being charmed by baby Sydney Seahorses. The Seahorse nursery is part of SeaBnB – a SIMS initiative with Taylors Wines which aims to grow populations of the endangered Sydney Seahorse by providing them with temporary underwater ‘bnbs’ while we get to work restoring their natural habitat.
It’s through innovative partnerships like SeaBnB, a collaboration with DPI Fisheries, UTS Sydney and Sealife Aquarium – that we can raise awareness and stewardship of our threatened marine species.
We look forward to continuing the conversation.
