Education

At SIMS, we’re passionate about inspiring the next generation of marine scientists. We support researchers at every stage of their journey, from postgraduate students and early career researchers to established scientists. We introduce school students to the exciting world of marine science through hands-on excursions and interactive workshops. Students have the opportunity to explore real research, use scientific equipment, meet scientists and experience what it’s like to work in marine science.

If you’re curious about where a passion for the ocean could take you, this guide will help you discover study pathways, career opportunities, and what life beneath the surface is really like.

SECONDARY WORK EXPERIENCE

The SIMS Year 10 Work Experience Program offers students an exciting and hands-on opportunity to dive into the world of marine science. This immersive program invites curious minds to explore the fascinating underwater ecosystems that surround Sydney, offering a rare chance to engage with leading scientists in cutting-edge research. Students not only gain invaluable insight into marine biology, environmental science and conservation efforts but also experience what it’s like to work in a world-class research facility.

TERTIARY

SIMS is committed to both the ongoing education of those already on the marine science path through our postgraduate programs, and the encouragement of those yet to make those career choices, through our curriculum linked school science modules.
